We desperately need sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Here are the details:

Here are several suggestions to give you an idea of donations we are looking for:
Community Building Events

·         A hike or nature walk that you guide.
·         Hosting an art project and providing a snack for a group of children at your home.
·         An outdoor barbeque dinner at your home for 25 people.

Opportunities for Business Owners

There are other ways that you can participate in the auction, some of you have businesses and this can be an excellent opportunity to market your services to the Edison community.  You could donate a few hours of your professional services to be sold at the auction, or for a cash donation you could sponsor the event.  We would include you in the advertising before and during the occasion.  We have several levels of sponsorship with different benefits available.

Some of you may have a connection at a local or national business that might be interested in donating or sponsoring our event.  Please contact the donations committee for more information and details on the sponsorship levels.

Other Options

Some people may have items of value that they would like to donate to the auction.  Art, sports memorabilia or other collectible items, Vacation get-aways.

Please contact me at Irene@IreneGlazer.com if you can help in any way. Thank you!

Highland getting its own farmers’ market

P9280567.jpg

Highland residents are about to get their own farmers’ market.

Starting on June 6, and running perhaps as late as October 31, a farmers’ market will take over the 1500 block of Boulder Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. That’s the stretch of street right outside Lola and Vita, and right around the corner from Little Man Ice Cream.

“The neighborhood association has been talking about a market for over a year now,” says market manager Nicole Jarman. “There is no longer a farmers’ market in northwest Denver, and I feel markets truly bring a strong sense of community to a neighborhood. This is also a neighborhood that is incredibly supportive of their local environment - eating local, buying local, supporting local businesses. They are excited to walk down the street, see their neighbors and do their weekly shopping.”

And buying local produce. While the lineup of vendors is not yet set, Jarman says she plans to feature only Colorado products.

Mow Down Pollution in your own yard

We’ve heard about a good deal from the office of Regional Air Quality Council.  If you turn in your gas mower, you can get an electric one for bargain basement prices, only $140! Go to OzoneAware.org for more information. That’s about $100 cheaper than last year, so it is a good deal for sure.  Did you know that one hour of mowing equates to driving about four hours in a modern car, so this helps reduce air pollution considerably!

Denver Home Show This Weekend!

With spring in the air it’s a perfect time to get some fresh ideas for sprucing up your house at the Denver Home Show.   The show, scheduled March 19-22, 2009, at the National Western Complex is a great place for you to experience what’s new in home remodeling, home decor and more!  You’ll have the opportunity to meet over 500 experts and experience thousands of products and services.

In addition to finding out the latest in flooring and paint colors, you can hear Ty Pennington from Extreme Home Makeover. See Ty live on stage, Saturday only at 11 AM & 3 PM!

This partnership makes a lot of sense for me. People always ask me where they can buy the cool products they see on our show, and the truth is that the best place to find all the basics, plus all the hot new products – all in one place – is at the type of home shows Marketplace Events produces. So take advantage of this beautiful weather to get a head start on getting your place ready for summer entertaining! For additional information you can call the Show Phone at 303-297-1553.

Eco-Friendly Grass for your yard

Recognizing the growing need for water responsibility, Gardner has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in research to develop environmentally-friendly grass that people can still love and enjoy. Out of these efforts came Reveille, developed and owned exclusively by Gardner Turfgrass in partnership with Texas A&M University.

What is Reveille?
Reveille (pronounced rev-uh-lee) is a Kentucky and Texas Bluegrass F1 hybrid. With the same rich blue-green color and barefoot-soft feel of Kentucky Blue, Reveille is a fine-to-medium textured, cool season grass. An all-around hardy variety, it has good heat, cold and shade tolerance and is resistant to disease and insects. It has excellent recuperative ability and will repair itself from injury.

The best part of Reveille is that you get all these coveted characteristics of Kentucky Blue, but with good soil prep, you’ll save up to 50% on your water bill after your lawn is established. And you’ll only have to mow it every ten to fourteen days.

Seem too good to be true? How about this: Colorado State University did a study on Reveille and found that it kept its healthy green color almost 40 days without water. That’s over a month! Click Here to see CSU research information. “With Reveille, you save water, time and money.” More info about Reveille.

SAME Cafe - Free lunch?

Has anyone tried SAME cafe?  It is a non-profit cafe where customers pay what they can.  That’s right. If you can’t pay, you can donate time in the kitchen.  This is a great article from the Westword.  I can’t wait to try it.  Plan on going tomorrow.
